Hereditary Cancer in Clinical Practice is an open access journal that publishes articles of interest for the cancer genetics community and serves as a discussion forum for the development of appropriate healthcare strategies.
Hereditary Cancer in Clinical Practice publishes articles on advanced and unique concepts within hereditary cancer, aided by editors with experience of both research and clinical practice relating to populations with DNA testing based on founder mutations. This allows us to understand the necessary improvements in genetic counselling, the value of population screenings as well as the unique achievements in chemotherapy and chemoprevention.
Jan Lubinski, MD, PhD, is Professor of Medicine and Head of International Hereditary Cancer Center (organized in 1992) of Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin, Poland. The most important achievements of this center are: a) it conducted the first world-wide population screening for cancer family syndromes in a 1.7 million region of West-Pomerania, Poland in years 2000-2001; b) it has a network of cancer genetic outpatient clinics covering almost the entire country; c) it has a cancer bio-bank with biological samples and clinical data from 250,000 cancer cases and appropriate controls, including registries of thousands of mutation carriers such as a registry of 5,000 of BRCA1 carriers.
Professor Lubinski is the national consultant for clinical genetics in Poland since 1998. He has authored around 300 papers on clinical and molecular genetics of cancers and has been author and coordinator of a few EU projects. In 2005 he got the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of Riga Stradins University, Riga, Latvia. Since 2006 he is a Board Member of European Society of Human Genetics and has been a Member of Scientific Council of the National Center for Research and Development in Poland since 2010.
