Respiratory Research is an open access journal aiming at publishing high-quality science in all areas of respiratory disease. Topics of specific interest include asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, genetics, infectious diseases, interstitial lung diseases, lung development, lung tumors, occupational and environmental factors, pulmonary circulation, pulmonary pharmacology and therapeutics, respiratory immunology, respiratory physiology, and sleep-related respiratory problems. The journal accepts submission relating to both clinical and basic research in the respiratory field. The journal also welcomes state-of-the-art reviews on any topic related to the scope of the journal.
Exciting new opportunities now exist in the translation of fundamental research into new therapeutic agents, unique biomarkers and hopefully the cure of lung and airways diseases. The rapid dissemination of this knowledge not only to colleagues in research and in medicine but also to the lay public will greatly enhance the value of lung research. Open access to respiratory research eliminates obstacles and challenges to dissemination of such knowledge and provides a platform for rapid discovery.
Dr. Reynold Panettieri, the Robert L. Mayock and David A. Cooper Professor of Medicine and Director of the Airways Biology Initiative at the University of Pennsylvania, has pioneered studies that focus on mesenchymal cells modulating airway inflammation that is important in asthma and COPD. His work focuses on signal transduction pathways that mediate glucocorticoid insensitivity, smooth muscle proliferation and excitation-contraction coupling. Dr. Panettieri is also the Deputy Director for the Center of Excellence in Environmental Toxicology at the University of Pennsylvania and Adjunct Professor at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia.
