Profile
Qi Jin is Director of the Institue of Pathogen Biology, in Beijing. His main research interests lie in the molecular biology of dysentery bacilli, Tubercle bacillus, Diplococcus intracellularis meningitidis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and superficial fungal infection.

What prompted you to submit a manuscript to one of BioMed Central's open access journals?
They not only offer open-access publication but also have no limit to the overall length of text or number of figures in each manuscript.

What was your assessment of the electronic submission and peer review process?
I thought the electronic submission process was very efficient, and the peer review process was professional and fast.

What do you think you gained from publishing in an open access journal?
Open access just gets the work out the fastest and gives us the widest possible audience.
