Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) embraces open access through Open Repository

21 Mar 2013

BioMed Central is pleased to welcome its first South American Open Repository client, the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), based in Lima, Peru.

Open Repository, a Registered Service Provider (RSP) of DuraSpace, provides an enhanced service of building, maintaining and hosting DSpace repositories for a variety of global organisations. This allows its clients to showcase their intellectual output to an unrestricted audience and manage their content, whilst the service provides the infrastructure, software and full support needed.

Bev Acreman BioMed Central’s Commercial Director said, “I am delighted that Open Repository has been selected as the solution to UPC’s desire for international discoverability for their research output. We are proud of the flexible options we are able to provide to a growing repository such as this”.

The Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) is a private and independent educational institution, established in 1994, whose aim is to educate, perform research and promote knowledge, culture and development in Peru.

Its mission is to produce innovative leaders with the integrity and vision to transform Peru. With this in mind, UPC decided that Open Repository was the perfect service to fulfill the academic knowledge management requirements for their Institute.
Liliana Eléspuru Briceño, Head of Information Resources at UPC, stated that  “We would like our repository to be widely used by students and faculty worldwide. UPC’s aim is to be well recognized nationally and internationally in the teaching-learning and research environment’’.
