New appointment demonstrates growing importance of open access publication model
12 Jan 2010
Today, BioMed Central, the world’s largest open access publisher, announces that Bob Schatz is to join the company as its North American Sales Manager.
Bob comes to BioMed Central having worked in senior roles for the Academic Book Center, WH Everett & Sons, Franklin Book Company, and Coutts Information Services. With the established success of the open access publishing model, interest in BioMed Central’s membership packages is growing rapidly and many opportunities now exist for exciting partnerships and relationships with academic institutes, libraries and societies alike.
With over thirty years of experience across the wider library community, one of Bob’s key responsibilities will be to develop and expand BioMed Central’s successful institutional membership scheme in the USA and Canada. BioMed Central membership allows institutions to encourage open access publication by providing central funding to offset open access publication fees for their researchers.
Speaking of his appointment, Bob said “I am excited to be a part of both the BioMed Central team and the wider Springer community. It is an opportunity for me to serve my library colleagues in new ways that will challenge my own professional growth. This is a time of great change in scholarly communication, and I feel fortunate to be part of an organization that is at the heart of much of that change.”
