NIH grantees - publish with BioMed Central to automatically fulfil the NIH open access request

As a National Institutes of Health (NIH) grantee you can submit articles to journals published by BioMed Central with the guarantee that your manuscript, once accepted for publication, will fulfil the new NIH request immediately and in full.

As you know, a new policy has been announced that aims to make research articles freely available so that anyone, anywhere, has access to the results from research funded by public money via the NIH [more details].

The NIH request that as grantees you:

  • deposit a final version of your published article in PubMed Central as soon as possible
  • release your article to the public within 12 months of publication

In our philosophy of Open Access, 12 months is a very long time. We deposit published articles immediately on publication in PubMed Central as well as in many other international open archives. This will ensure not only that your research can be accessed and used as widely as possible, but also as quickly as possible - benefiting both the advancement of science and society as a whole.

To fulfil the NIH request with admin-free, automatic submission to PubMed Central immediately on acceptance of your article, publish in an Open Access, peer-reviewed BioMed Central journal.
