Genetic diversity of Plasmodium vivax in Kolkata, India

Jung-Ryong Kim, Mallika Imwong, Amitabha Nandy, Kesinee Chotivanich, Apichart Nontprasert, Naowarat Tonomsing, Ardhendu Maji, Manjulika Addy, Nick PJ Day, Nicholas J White, Sasithon Pukrittayakamee Malaria Journal 2006, 5:71 (14 August 2006)

Abstract | Full text | PDF | PubMed | Cited on BioMed Central |  Editor’s summary

An extensive genetic survey of malaria parasites in Kolkota in India. Genotyping was carried out by PCR using DNA purified from admission samples, with three genetic markers targeted. The results indicate a high degree of diversity, though few of the isolates contained mixed parasite genotypes. This is interesting given the low transmission intensity characteristic of the site.
