The Library Information Pages also include details of special collection offers and essential contact information.

BioMedCentral Institutional Membership

Is your institution a member of BioMed Central?  Introduced in January 2002, The BioMed Central Institutional Membership Program gives institutions a way to actively support open access, and to effect change in the way that scientific research is published, priced and disseminated.

Harvard University, Cancer Research UK, Imperial College, The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and many other institutions worldwide have already joined as members, thereby lending support to our publishing policy.

If you would like more information, please contact our Membership Director, Becky Fishman

Discussion Forum - Online Archiving

We are interested in your views, so let us know what you think about Online Archiving and we will address some of your concerns in the next update.

  • how ready is your library to go totally digital with acquisitions?
  • what is it that is holding you back? (money, fear of lack of permanence, etc.)
  • should providing a permanent e-archive be the responsibility of the publisher or of the librarian?
  • does your institution have or plan to have a permanent e-print archive for certain papers?

Send your answers by e-mail to institutions@biomedcentral.com

Product Focus - Faculty of 1000

Faculty of 1000 is a revolutionary new online research service that highlights and evaluates the most interesting papers published in the biological sciences, based on the recommendations of a faculty of over 1400 selected leading researchers.

19 Institutions are now subscribing to Faculty of 1000 and hundreds are taking advantage of the 30-day free trial. Why not try it out at you institution?

User’s quote

"Awesome! a very nice way to look for interesting papers that I otherwise would have missed!" - Professor Ben A Barres, Stanford University

Budapest Open Access Initiative

The Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) was launched by George Soros's Open Society Institute at the end of February. This initiative is dedicated to freeing online access to peer-reviewed research literature. BioMed Central is pleased to announce its involvement in, and support for, this initiative, by providing the technology that can deliver open access peer-reviewed research in biology and medicine.

For further information read the BioMed Central press release and sign up to the open letter on the BOAI website
