Comparison of the metal accumulation capacity between the acanthocephalan Pomphorhynchus laevis and larval nematodes of the genus Eustrongylides sp. infecting barbel (Barbus barbus)

Milen Nachev, Gerhard Schertzinger, Bernd Sures Parasites & Vectors 2013, 6:21 (18 January 2013)

Abstract | Full text | PDF | PubMed |  Editor’s summary

We investigated and compared the metal accumulation capacity of an adult acanthocephalan (Pomphorhynchus laevis) and larval nematodes of the genus Eustrongylides sp. infecting barbel (Barbus barbus). Our results suggest that, in addition to acanthocephalans, nematodes can also be used as bioindicators for metal pollution.
