Editor’s summary
A survey was conducted to detect ticks and tick-associated pathogens in dogs and cats in Belgium. Next to Ixodes spp., Dermacentor reticulatus was confirmed to be an indigenous parasite. Borrelia lusitaniae and Rickettsia helvetica were detected in Belgium for the first time. Image: Dermacentor reticulatus ticks, collected in the environment of a dog that was repeatedly infested with this species.

Editor’s summary
Ctenocephalides felis is a vector for Bartonella henselae and the organism can live in flea frass for at least 9 days. Wearing a collar containing imidacloprid and moxidectin blocked B. henselae infection amongst cats for 8 months. Image: Adult Ctenocephalides felis and frass.
