Editor’s summary
Currently, the “gold standard” for pharmacokinetic study design remains the intensive traditional PK sampling strategy of multiple samples in a few patients. However, such intensive strategies are often not feasible in anti-malarial studies, as those most affected tend to be young children and pregnant adults. Population PK approaches are becoming increasingly utilized, and do appear to be a feasible and appropriate method.
