Towards optimal design of anti-malarial pharmacokinetic studies

Julie A Simpson, Kris M Jamsen, Ric N Price, Nicholas J White, Niklas Lindegardh, Joel Tarning, Stephen B Duffull Malaria Journal 2009, 8:189 (6 August 2009)

Abstract | Full text | PDF | PubMed | Cited on BioMed Central |  Editor’s summary

Currently, the “gold standard” for pharmacokinetic study design remains the intensive traditional PK sampling strategy of multiple samples in a few patients. However, such intensive strategies are often not feasible in anti-malarial studies, as those most affected tend to be young children and pregnant adults. Population PK approaches are becoming increasingly utilized, and do appear to be a feasible and appropriate method.
