Editor’s summary
This study showed bedrooms, living rooms and kitchens were major resting sites of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes and most females accept a blood-meal 12 hours after oviposition. These results provide the evidence required to demonstrate the efficacy of indoor residual spraying and recommend its re-introduction by targeting the specific resting sites, especially during dengue outbreaks. Editor’s summary
Spiking bloodmeals with 7.5ppm ivermectin enables the complete elimination of female Anopheles arabiensis from a laboratory cage population by day 4 post-emergence, making this method a potential solution for female elimination in this species in the context of the sterile insect technique.
