Resting behaviour of Aedes aegypti in Trinidad: with evidence for the re-introduction of indoor residual spraying (IRS) for dengue control

Dave D Chadee Parasites & Vectors 2013, 6:255 (3 September 2013)

Abstract | Full text | PDF | PubMed |  Editor’s summary

This study showed bedrooms, living rooms and kitchens were major resting sites of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes and most females accept a blood-meal 12 hours after oviposition. These results provide the evidence required to demonstrate the efficacy of indoor residual spraying and recommend its re-introduction by targeting the specific resting sites, especially during dengue outbreaks. Eliminating female Anopheles arabiensis by spiking blood meals with toxicants as a sex separation method in the context of the sterile insect technique

Hanano Yamada, Sharon M Soliban, Marc JB Vreysen, Dave D Chadee, Jeremie RL Gilles Parasites & Vectors 2013, 6:197 (3 July 2013)

Abstract | Full text | PDF | PubMed |  Editor’s summary

Spiking bloodmeals with 7.5ppm ivermectin enables the complete elimination of female Anopheles arabiensis from a laboratory cage population by day 4 post-emergence, making this method a potential solution for female elimination in this species in the context of the sterile insect technique.
