The fitness of African malaria vectors in the presence and limitation of host behaviour

Issa N Lyimo, Daniel T Haydon, Kasian F Mbina, Ally A Daraja, Edgar M Mbehela, Richard Reeve, Heather M Ferguson Malaria Journal 2012, 11:425 (19 December 2012)

Abstract | Full text | PDF | PubMed |  Editor’s summary

A creative approach to understanding the impact of host defensive behaviour on several aspects of fitness for two important malaria vectors. The authors take advantage of their semi-field system and ability to obtain and rear both species in nearly ambient conditions to tackle this issue. Understanding the impact of host defensive behaviour on malaria vectors is important for understanding the potential for selection on these vectors to evolve alternate feeding strategies.
