Editor’s summary
The fishing communities of Africa remain at higher risk of acquiring both infections and co-infections. The available evidence indicates that immunological interactions of the two diseases in single human host are associated with severe morbidities. Editor’s summary
A study based on the Tororo child cohort assessing incidence trends of malaria infection in under-five children with universal access to two corner stones in modern malaria control - LLINs and ACT. The finding indicate that despite the access to key malaria control interventions, the incidence of malaria is reported to have increased over time, even if the risk of complicated malaria appears to be low.

In this is a cross-sectional study, HIV-exposed infants had a higher use of malaria preventative measures and lower odds of malaria parasitaemia compared to HIV-unexposed infants. HIV-exposure was the primary risk factor for measures of malnutrition. The primary risk factor for anaemia was malaria parasitaemia.
