Editor’s summary
An interesting report, providing useful information on a much debated but not much investigated topic, on which published data are scanty. The contribution of community medicine distributors to prompt health service delivery in areas described as ¿hard-to-reach¿ is important but the value of their work time remains unknown and thus makes it difficult to design appropriate regular financial incentives to motivate them.

Editor’s summary
Excessive complement activation is of importance in the pathogenesis of placental malaria by mediating inflammation, coagulation, and endothelial dysfunction. Mutated MBL and MASP2 proteins could have direct intrinsic effects on the susceptibility to placental malaria.
