Editor’s summary
Bacteriophage therapy is a potential tool to combat bacterial infections of livestock and preventing their spread to humans. This study characterizes the phage shed from sheep and cattle inoculated following E.coli infection, but that are not related to the bacteriophage therapy being trialled. These "rogue" phage must be considered in the interpretation of such trials.
