Editor’s summary
In silico analysis of the Dermanyssus gallinae transcriptome
identified 3,091 putative excretory/secretory and 7,361 putative
transmembrane proteins. Especially those proteins of the secretome
and transmembranome suggested to be involved in blood digestion or
neurological processes represent target molecules for new
intervention strategies against this most important ectoparasite of
poultry. Image: Dermanyssus gallinae bloodfed adult female.

Editor’s summary
Martrack Leaf is a novel method for analysing the daily rhythms of leaf growth under natural or artificial lighting. A key innovation is the use of dark beads that serve as artificial landmarks to the leaf margin. The method has been validated by using it to assess leaf growth in environmental situations with different illumination conditions.
