Editor’s summary
The case report describes the microscopic examination of a bone marrow biopsy. In the analysis, the majority of immature stages are found outside the vascular structure, unlike the (very few) mature stages, more frequently observed in the vascular spaces. This observation supports the intriguing hypothesis that most of sexual stage differentiation occurs extravascularly, while gametocyte maturation is associated to re-entry in circulation.

Editor’s summary
Our study shows that Cx. pipiens form molestus is present in Morocco and hybrids between pipiens and molestus form in North Africa. These findings have important epidemiological implications as hybrids with their opportunistic biting behavior may act as a bridge-vector for transmission of pathogens from birds to humans.

Editor’s summary
SIV multi-infection of single splenocytes was readily detected in all monkeys and all stages of the infection. Single-infected cells were more frequent than double or triple infected cells. There was no strong trend linking the copy number distribution to plasma viral load, disease stage or CD4 cell counts.

Editor’s summary
The manuscript presents a longitudinal study, which is of importance, more specifically now with the re-emergence of malaria in Greece of P. vivax and the threat for Southern Europe. The study details the main parameters to consider for the risk assessment: receptivity, susceptibility and vulnerability focussing on An. labranchiae potential vector for P. falciparum in Maremma area.

Editor’s summary
Entomological surveys reveal invasion of the Asian tiger mosquito vector Aedes albopictus, outcompeting the closer species Aedes. aegypti, in Madagascar. This raises questions about its implication in recent arbovirus outbreaks.
