Editor’s summary
A sound contribution to our understanding about community perceptions of a malaria vaccine in the Brong-Ahafo Region of Ghana. The study results are of significant interest to the scientific community as our knowledge on acceptance/rejection of malaria vaccines is limited to date. Furthermore, the data on the role of religious leaders in promoting health-seeking behaviour and participation in vaccination initiatives like EPI is highly relevant for policy makers in the light of earlier vaccination controversies in West Africa and elsewhere.

Editor’s summary
An electrocardiographic study in Ghanaian children with uncomplicated malaria showed no significant changes in ECG except a bradycardia in the artesunate-amodiaquine group. It is difficult to attribute this change to anti-malarial treatment as patients had probably fever, intestinal disorders and/or ionic imbalance before treatment.

Editor’s summary
In areas where the vector species transmitting Wuchereria bancrofti are Anopheles mosquitoes, it is feasible to eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) using Mass Drug Administration alone. This review outlines the differences in the diversity and transmission competence in the An. gambiae vectors of LF in West Africa, and the challenges it poses to the 2020 elimination goal. It calls for a better understanding of the vector competence of mosquitoes infected with W. bancrofti in different areas and a supplementation of MDA activities with vector control.
