Editor’s summary
Monitoring malaria transmission in areas of low endemicity and seasonal patterns, such as the north-western coast of Peru, poses a major challenge to national malaria control programmes. This paper develops a model system called an SCR force of infection model. This is a cross-sectional study using microscopy, PCR and serology to understand malaria transmission.

Editor’s summary
This paper investigated the occurrence of mutations, known to be associated with benzimidazole resistance in other parasitic nematodes, in whipworms (Trichuris spp.) from humans and baboons. The genetic relationship between worms from the two host species was evaluated.
