Convergence of developmental mutants into a single tomato model system: 'Micro-Tom' as an effective toolkit for plant development research

Rogério F Carvalho, Marcelo L Campos, Lilian E Pino, Simone L Crestana, Agustin Zsögön, Joni E Lima, Vagner A Benedito, Lázaro EP Peres Plant Methods 2011, 7:18 (29 June 2011)

Abstract | Full text | PDF | PubMed |  Editor’s summary

As well as being an economically important food crop, tomato is a valuable model species for studying aspects of plant biology that cannot be addressed using Arabidopsis. The authors report the introgression of a suite of hormonal and photomorphogenetic mutations into the genetic background of the small, rapid cycling Micro-Tom cultivar to create a set of near-isogenic lines (NILs). This collection of developmental mutants in a single genetic background provides an extremely valuable community resource for investigating developmental pathways in tomato.
