Revolutionary online literature evaluation services: Now free to explore

Faculty of 1000 Biology and Faculty of 1000 Medicine, the expert-driven article evaluation services, are now freely available for scientists, medics and journalists to explore.

Designed to make sense of the vast and growing body of scholarly literature in the fields of biology and medicine, the award-winning online F1000 service comprises over 4,500 of the world's most distinguished and respected researchers and clinicians who select key recent articles and evaluate them. This 'faculty of experts' thus highlights the cutting-edge articles that make a difference to biomedical scientists in their research and to clinicians in their every-day practice, saving everybody invaluable time by highlighting their significance. The articles are identified from over 1000 of the most highly regarded biomedical journals from a wide range of publishers, and they are then graded from an expert perspective.

From June 2008, F1000 is making browsing and searching its content freely available, offering visitors the opportunity to get a flavor of the crème de la crème of the tens of thousands of selections archived, as well as the daily updates. Users will be invited to subscribe to the service to enjoy the insights and summaries featured, and to tailor the websites to their own specific preferences. Free trials are offered to introduce the full service to new users.

In the opinion of Professor Jean-Louis Vincent (Erasme University Hospital), "Faculty of 1000 Medicine is exactly what researchers and clinicians need to keep up to date with the most important developments".

The real value of F1000 according to Professor Floyd Bloom (Scripps Research Institute and former Editor-in-Chief of SCIENCE) is that "No one can keep up with the literature, so having colleagues point out the recent important advances in unfamiliar areas is enormously useful."
