BioMed Central launches BMC Medicine and BMC Biology
BioMed Central launched a new pair of Open Access journals – BMC
Medicine and BMC
Biology – on 1 December 2003. The journals complement the
57 established specialist titles in the BMC journal series by providing
a selective home for articles of broad interest within a large field or
across fields.
 |
|
BMC
Biology publishes original research articles and methodology
articles in any area of biology but with a focus on the biomedical
sciences. |
 |
|
BMC
Medicine publishes original research articles, technical
advances and study protocols in any area of medical science or clinical
practice |
Peter Newmark, BioMed Central’s Editorial Director said: “BMC
Medicine and BMC Biology will fill the gap between the highly
selective Journal of Biology and the existing BMC titles. The
journals have been started in direct response to considerable demand from
authors for more selective and broader interest Open Access journals.”
BMC Biology and BMC Medicine have already published
their first articles. Please include them in your journal
catalogs and encourage your users to make the most of these new Open
Access resources.

New pricing for all 2005 membership
renewals:
We are implementing changes to our pricing model for BioMed Central
Institutional Membership. These will commence from January 2005 for all
members renewing their membership. All institutions joining BioMed Central
for the first time will, for the first year of membership, continue to
be charged a flat-fee based on the total number of graduate and postgraduate
students and faculty members in the life sciences and medicine.
The new pricing is worked out as the base article processing charge of
US$525* multiplied by the number of articles published in BioMed Central
journals during the previous 12 months. Please note that this is the number
of articles published by a submitting author affiliated to the member
institution. BioMed Central only charges once per article, irrespective
of the number of authors, to the (institute of the) submitting author
(if authored by several authors from different institutes, to the institute
of the submitting author only).
The membership threshold renewal price is three times the base article
processing charge of US$525 i.e. US$1575. This fee will apply to anyone
who publishes 3 papers or less during the previous 12 months and wishes
to renew.
Example:-
At University of Anywhere, 10 articles were submitted to BioMed Central's
journals, and 5 of them accepted and published during the last 12 months
of their membership.
Price Quotation for Membership Fee for next 12 months:
US$525 X 5 = US$2625
*the base article processing charge of US$525 is subject to currency
fluctuations and may change.
Promoting Open
Access Publishing at your institution
We believe it is incredibly important that our members get the
most from their membership and publish an optimal number of papers in
our Open Access journals therefore we have created an advocacy website.
On the advocacy
pages you will find some new
posters that can be used to promote Open Access. Why not print these
out and place them around your library and the medical and biology faculties
to encourage your colleagues to submit their papers to BioMed Central?
