New Features in Faculty of 1000
Full-text
linking options
F1000
users now have three options with which to obtain the full-text for an evaluated
article in Faculty of 1000:
- Linking
to a document delivery service via SFX. If you want more information about
SFX go to http://www.sfxit.com/
- Using
the document delivery link from Infotrieve (or contact us about specifying
an alternate supplier)
- Configuring
a library's own system, so that when one of their users clicks from Faculty
of 1000 through to PubMed, we can ensure that links to the libraries
holdings appear.
To
find out more about how to enable or disable any of the above options. please
contact us info@facultyof1000.com
"Stored
searches" now available: Create your own sections!
Registered
F1000 users are now able to store
their own searches, such as "xenopus AND
embryogenesis"
or "CD25 cells", and receive regular updates of interesting relevant
papers recently selected by Faculty members by adding these searches to their "My
F1000" page, which will also be included in their e-mail alerts.

References
lists for BioMed Central articles are now OpenURL linked
OpenURL is
a system for allowing institutions to customize the links that are seen by
their users when viewing bibliographic content online.
Recently
BioMed Central introduced OpenURL-compatible linking on the Faculty of 1000
site. This proved so popular with institutions that we have now extended
BioMed Central's OpenURL support to include article reference lists.
OpenURL
links are available both for articles on the BioMed Central site
And
on our other journal sites, such as Genome Biology
If
your institution operates an OpenURL-compatible link server (such as SFX or
LinkFinder Plus) and you would like BioMed Central to activate OpenURL
linking for your users, please contact institutions@biomedcentral.com
If
your institution already has OpenURL configured for Faculty of 1000, you
will find that the links on full text
articles are automatically activated.

Product Focus - Genome Biology
Genome
Biology
is an essential journal for all biologists in the post-genomic era. It
was recently described by Nature as,
"an excellent guide to the overwhelming onslaught of genomic and
proteomic data and will flourish if the current trend continues"
Like all journals
published by BioMed Central all research articles in Genome Biology are
free to access. However, Genome Biology also contains a variety of
commentaries, reviews and opinion pieces one of which was recently
profiled in The
New York Times.
If your institution
does not already subscribe then why not take
advantage of
the 30-day
free trial. We can provide full user stats after your trial to let
you know how many of your users visited the website.
A print version of
Genome Biology is also available.

SPARC come out
in support of BioMed Central
The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) have
agreed to support BioMed Central's efforts to develop its sustainable
business model to ensure long-term open access to biological and medical
research. In return, BioMed Central is publicly committing itself to maintaining an open access publishing
policy through the launch of an Open Access
Charter.
The charter commits BioMed Central to permanently maintaining its open access
publishing policy, retrospectively and prospectively, in all
eventualities, including any future changes in ownership.
If a change of ownership should be considered, an independent Board of Trustees will be asked to judge and
advise whether sufficient guarantees to continue a policy of
unconditional open access for research articles are being offered and
agreed by any prospective new owner. BioMed Central will not enter into
a change of ownership agreement unless the Board of Trustees accepts
these guarantees.
