A short biography
Eugenio Picano was born in 1958, and graduated with a degree in medicine (1981) from the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, University of Pisa, Italy. Subsequently, he received a cardiology fellowship (1984) and a PhD in cardiovascular pathophysiology also from the University of Pisa. Eugenio is currently a Senior Medical Researcher for the Italian National Research Council, Director of the Echocardiographic Laboratory at the Institute of Clinical Physiology in Pisa, and Scientific Director of the Montevergine Cardiology Clinic in Mercogliano, Italy. He gave internationally recognized pioneering contribution in the fields of ultrasonic tissue characterization of atherosclerotic plaque and stress echocardiography for the non-invasive diagnosis of coronary artery disease, and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography and of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. He is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the BioMed Central journal, Cardiovascular Ultrasound.
