    Interventions more likely with private care

    Obstetric interventions in Ireland are more frequent in patients in private obstetric care, irrespective of risk factors, largely due to more elective caesarian sections and episiotomies.

    Sun and Vitamin D during pregnancy

    Vitamin D levels, and physical strength, are lower in pregnant Somali immigrants than in native Swedish women, possibly due to less exposure of the skin to UVB radiation.

    A need for better definition.

    The measurements of maternal morbidity across the world need to be based on standard definitions, which is not currently the case, to allow proper comparisons across regions and to correctly inform future policy.

    Does ethnicity affect experience of maternity care?

    Women belonging to ethnic minorities reported that they had poorer experiences of maternity services in England than those reported by white women.
