Image of the Month – July 2008

E-cadherin expression in the mouse yolk sac.
E-cadherin, an endothelial cell marker, localizes to the apical brush-border surface of the yolk sac but not to the mesodermal layer of an E13.5 mouse embryo. Under confocal microscopy and using antibodies against E-cadherin (green fluorescence) and a second endothelial cell marker PECAM-1 (red fluorescence), the overlap of signal appears yellow. Nuclei are stained with DAPI (blue).
