TGFbeta receptor rescue of neural tube closure in MZoep zebrafish mutants. Overexpression of an activated form of a TGFbeta receptor (Taram–A*) rescues a neural tube closure defect in MZoep zebrafish embryos, which lack both maternal and zygotic mRNA for oep (one-eyed pinhead) and cannot respond properly to Nodal signals. Taram–A* mRNA and mGFP mRNA were co-injected into one blastomere of 16-cell stage MZoep embryos. The embryos were imaged at 24 h post-fertilization by bright field (top) and fluorescence microscopy (bottom), with green fluorescence visible in the mesoderm-derived anterior mesendoderm and notochord.
