Image of the Month – October 2007

Role of the Iroquois protein in fold formation in the Drosophila imaginal wing disc. Within the notum territory of the third instar Drosophila wing disc, cells unable to express the Iroquois (Iro-C) protein tend to join together, separating from Iro-C expressing cells through a process of cell sorting to form fused clones. Absence of green fluorescence represents clones null for Iro-C and the Iro-C free clumps appear red or black in a background of a red fluorescent neutral marker (arm-lacZ), used to indicate clonal regions. Iro-C expressing cells appear bright green and yellow.
