Image of the Month – December 2006

Epidermal wounding in the pupal wing of the butterfly Bicyclus anynana induces expression of the transcription factors Distal-less (Dll) and Engrailed (En). Expression can be detected 12 hours after wounding in scale-building cells around the wound site. Dll staining is shown in red, En in green and co-expression appears in yellow.
