Neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) expression in neural tubes is reduced in Xenopus embryos injected with growth and differentiation factor 6 (GDF6) morpholino antisense. Knockdown of GDF6 in Xenopus embryos results in eye and neural defects suggesting that GDF6 plays a role in neural differentiation in the eye and central nervous system.
