In mouse embryonic submandibular salivary glands ß-catenin is immunodetected in cell cytoplasm adjacent to epithelial, but not mesenchymal, plasma membranes. Following infection with mouse CMV, submandibular salivary glands show dysmorphogenesis and nuclear translocation of ß-catenin.
