Image of the Month – March 2008

Differentiation of cholinergic amacrine cells during chick embryonic development. Vertical sections of postnatal chick retina were labeled with antibodies to choline acetyl transferase (red fluorescence) to identify cholinergic amacrine cells and with antibodies to retinoic acid binding protein, CRABP (green fluorescence), as visualized by confocal microscopy. CRABP was not expressed in type-II cholinergic cells, but was present in non-cholinergic cells. Overlap of signal is shown in yellow.
