Image of the Month - October 2007
Olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) mingled with astrocytes. Purified rat neonatal OECs and astrocytes were cultured and a functional confrontation OEC/astrocyte assay was performed and fluorescently stained. The two cell types are observed to mingle rather than form a boundary between them. Astrocytes are labeled in red by the astrocytic marker GFAP, and OECs are labeled by p75NTR in green. This month features a guest image which was recently published in BMC Neuroscience.
