Alkaline phosphatase activity in a coculture of two intestinal cell lines. Localization of alkaline phosphatase activity (in red) was identified by cytochemistry in a coculture of the human intestinal cell lineages Caco-2 and HT29-5M21. Alkaline phosphatase can be used a new marker for monitoring the cellular composition of the coculture, which produces a monolayer containing the two main cell types of human intestinal epithelium.
