Activation of the β-catenin-dependent pathway during wound repair in mice. Immunohistochemistry of the skin of mice expressing a β-galactosidase reporter construct responsive to β-catenin-dependent signaling shows (A) normal skin, (B,C) β-galactosidase expressed in differentiated hair follicle shafts near the edge of a wound (arrow) 7 days (B) and 21 days (C) after wounding, and (D) no β-galactosidase expression in the wound itself.
