The neuromuscular junctions of sec8 knock-out fruit fly larvae have more branches and presynaptic terminals and an increased synaptic microtubule density, suggesting that this exocyst component controls synaptic microtubule formation, and is not required for neurite or synaptic terminal growth.

Transitions in the life cycle of the parasite Toxoplasma gondii are marked by expression of stage-specific genes, as revealed by serial analysis of gene expression (SAGE), and 20% of expressed genes are parasite-specific, functioning in invasion and transmission.
