BMC Bioinformatics  Impact Factor

The thematic issue 'Bioimage Informatics' focuses on the latest developments in the emerging field of bioimage informatics, which integrates bio-image processing, analysis, storage, annotation, and retrieval. It features selected contributions from the 2012 BioImage Informatics Conference held Sept 16-19 in Dresden (Germany), along with contributed submissions. The need and use of image informatics in the life sciences continues to expand and novel methods enable new studies. Trends such as large and high-dimensional images, algorithm generality, and error quantification of image-processing results present stimulating challenges to both the method and application sides. This special topic will highlight novel concepts and advances in the methods and algorithms, advances in software tools, knowledge transfer from, e.g., Computer Vision, and significant biological applications of imaging.

The topic will consist of three areas:

- Theory and Algorithms for Bioimage Informatics
- Software and Tools for Bioimage Informatics
- Application of Bioimage Informatics

Submission is open to everyone, and all submitted manuscripts will be peer-reviewed through the regular BMC Bioinformatics review process. All accepted manuscripts are going to be published together in one special thematic section. BMC Bioinformatics is an open-access journal.

Deadline for submission is: March 15, 2013. We have a preliminary publication date of June 15, 2013.

Submission of original research, methodology, software, and database articles are encouraged

Please submit your manuscript via BMC Bioinformatics indicating within your cover letter that you wish your manuscript to be considered as part of the 'Bioimage Informatics' thematic series. Feel free to direct pre-submission enquiries to Catherine.rice@biomedcentral.com.
