BMC   How to receive information from BioMed Central on your handheld device

Users of Palm-compatible PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants), PocketPCs and Windows CE devices can receive up-to-the-minute research article abstracts from BioMed Central. AvantGo's free software will automatically download research abstracts from BioMed Central when you synchronize your PDA. You can then read them on the move, wherever you are, and select the articles you wish to view in full later. When you next sync, you will be emailed a link to a full version of the articles you have requested.

To start receiving information from BioMed Central via AvantGo, follow these simple steps:

  1. If you have not done so already, visit AvantGo.com and download the free AvantGo software. The AvantGo software needs to be installed on your desktop machine. Both Mac and PC versions are available. Download and installation should take about 15 minutes. When you have installed AvantGo, come back to this page.
  2. Select which version of the channel you wish to subscribe to

    Select which version of the channel you wish to subscribe to

      My BioMed Central
      Download the latest research papers in your own chosen subject areas.
      My BioMed Central is available to registered users of BioMed Central. If you have already registered, log on and then return to this page to signup. Or, if you have not yet registered with BMC, you can register now (it's free)

      Biology Research
      Download the latest biological research papers from all the BMC Biology Journals.

      Medical Research
      Download the latest medical research papers from all the BMC Medicine Journals.
  3. Synchronize your PDA (you should do this while your desktop computer is connected to the Internet in order to ensure that your channels can be downloaded).
  4. That's it!
Troubleshooting tip
Your PDA will not update a channel when you sync if you have previously synced within the last few hours. This means that if you switch between the Biology, Medicine or My BMC options on the 'BioMed Central Research' channel, it may take up to 24 hours for your change to be recognized. If you want to avoid this lag, you can delete the channel via the AvantGo website, sychronize (to remove it from your device), then re-add the channel with your preferred option.

 

BioMed Central's AvantGo channels are continuously updated, so make sure you synchronize frequently to stay up to date with the latest news and BMC research articles.
