What prompted you to submit a paper?
As for most scientists, contributing to and sharing of knowledge prompts one to submit papers for publication. On a practical level it is a job requirement.
What was your assessment of the electronic submission and peer review process?
I thought the submission and review process at BMC was professional, uncomplicated and rapid, which I appreciated.
What do you think you gained from publishing in an open access journal?
Open access reaches a wider audience. In addition, the principle of research and knowledge being accessible and free is a noble one.

What are you working on right now?
I am interested in evolution at the molecular level. At the moment, I am using laboratory and computational methods to investigate determinants of genome evolution in unicellular organisms.
