The web presentation is superb - they identified links to abstracts and full text for many of our references, including some web links that I wasn't even aware of myself. And of course having our own article available as open access is great, one of the key attractions of BMC Bioinformatics for myself and my colleagues."
Rifat Hamoudi, University of Cambridge, UK about BMC Bioinformatics"On behalf of my co-authors, I would like to say how satisfied we are with the way our paper has been processed from the online submission to the final editing. Usually we would have to wait for months for an answer without any efficient way of tracking at what stage our manuscript is at. However when we submitted our manuscript to BMC Bioinformatics journal we could track at any time at what stage our paper is. The immediate publication in PubMed is great and helps us in sharing our software and methodologies with wider range of researchers. We will continue to submit some of our future manuscripts to BioMed Central's journals."

Chris Adami, California Institute of Technology, USA about BMC Evolutionary Biology"BMC Evolutionary Biology has quickly turned out to be a forum where important ideas in evolutionary biology are disseminated and discussed. More and more researchers are discovering that, within BMC, you can get you work submitted, peer-reviewed and published in a short amount of time. But most importantly, they discover that their work will be read, and cited. I can imagine a time not too far in the future where my students will ask me how we ever dealt with publishing in any other way."
Greg Hurst, University College London, UK about BMC Evolutionary Biology"I chose to publish in BMC Evolutionary Biology for two reasons. First, I wanted people to be able to read my findings (there is no point in publishing a paper that no one can to read. Second, I wanted an efficient process with a fast turnaround. I've not been disappointed in either. My paper can be found and read by everyone. The process from submission to publication was smooth and rapid. Because the whole process is electronic, I had two referee reports within four weeks. Because there was no 'printing time' my paper was published within a month of me returning the revised version. It was simply the fastest I have ever had a paper go from submission through review to publication."
Greg Hurst"
Francisco Rodriguez Valera, Universidad Miguel Hernández, Spain about Genome Biology about BMC Evolutionary Biology"I have no doubt that open access on-line journals are the future of scientific publishing. The fast pace of present day science does not allow for delays in publication, and the advantage of avoiding printed versions at all stages are obvious, particularly at the graphics level. Financially it makes sense to include the publication investment as part of the research cost. In the end the volume of resources invested in publishing should be reduced enormously, as should be expected from the technological progress that on-line publication represents. This will be beneficial for all."
Greg Hurst"
Marek Smieja, McMaster University, Canada about BMC Infectious Diseases"In submitting to BMC Infectious Diseases, I was very pleased with the rapid turn-around and over-all efficiency of the submission and publication process. What I never expected, however, was the high calibre of the reviews and reviewers: superb constructive comments from some of the giants in my field."

Thom Hughes, Yale University Medical School, USA about BMC Neuroscience"We enjoyed the rapid turn around and solid editorial process a great deal. We will be returning to BMC neuroscience to be sure. But more importantly, we have had an incredible response to our paper. We have had requests for protocols and plasmids from all over the world. This includes areas of Africa and the former USSR that we have never had requests from in the past. It is my belief that our papers and ideas are reaching many more scientists through the medium of BMC and open access."
Skirmantas Janusonis, Yale University School of Medicine, USA about Theoretical Biology and Medical Modelling"I chose Theoretical Biology and Medical Modelling because I liked the focus of the journal. Only after the publication of my paper did I realize how much satisfaction I got from knowing that my paper could be read, in full, by anyone who had Internet access. The review process was expeditious and, despite the structural complexity of my paper, the editor made sure that all of its parts were reviewed by experts in the appropriate fields."
Jaime Miranda, University College London, UK about BMC Public Health"I am very satisfied with the continuous editorial support and contact that BMC Public Health provide. With most journals you feel you've done your job in writing and then 'your kid' (the paper) is taken away and you don't hear much until it is published, and sometimes you don't even know when that happens. The simple messages letting you know the stage your paper has reached (revision, acknowledge of receipt of new versions, submission to PubMed and final publication), that BioMed Central send, make you feel that your paper and your work is important."
Jignesh D Pandya, State University of New York at Buffalo, USA about Lipids in Health and Disease"Many many thanks to all the team members for your efforts to publish our manuscript without an error in it. Your fast responses were always appreciated."

You folks do first rate work!"
Irwin Davidson, Institut de Génétique et de Biologie Moléculaire et Cellulaire Molãculaire et Cellulaire, Strasbourg, France about BMC Molecular Biology"The high quality of complex figures seems to me one of the most important features of online publishing. Most printed journals (even the most prestigious) have stringent space limitations for figures. BioMed Central enables papers to be published with as many high resolution figures as necessary."
Professor Brian Haynes, McMaster University, Ontario, Canada about BMC Medicine about BMC Public Health"The traditional forms of publishing in biomedicine leave much to be desired especially delays in manuscript processing, publication bias and restricted access in expensive and often arcane print publications. BioMed Central is a bold venture to solve these problems."
Andrew Vickers, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, USA about BMC Medical Research Methodology about BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders about BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine"I thought I would share a personal experience about BioMed Central. For those of you who do not know, this is an initiative, originally of Harold Varmus, to have high quality, peer-reviewed biomedical journals available free of charge on the Internet. This has obvious advantages in terms of access, ease of use and justice (why should we have to buy back, in the form of reprints, the results of publicly funded research provided free of charge to a profit-making organization that restricts access to those who can afford a subscription?) I recently submitted a paper to BioMed Central Complementary and Alternative Medicine on BioMed Central just to see what the process was like. It was extremely easy: you just send the paper direct from your hard drive by clicking on a button on the website. I got very good peer reviews back via email and the paper was published on May 1, about 6 weeks after I sent it. This is by far the best experience I have ever had submitting a paper. I just checked and the paper has been accessed by over 250 people in the first month, pretty good for a niche interest editorial about evidence-based medicine and CAM."
Christos Lionis, University of Crete, Heraklion, Greece about BMC Ophthalmology about BMC Family Practice"I am very impressed by the fast and high in quality procedures, which BioMed Central has established. The impact of this important initiative is anticipated to be recognised by institutions and researchers."

Leonore A. Herzenberg, Stanford University Medical School, Stanford, USA about BMC Molecular Biology"I was pleased with the editorial process at BioMed Central. The review itself was excellent, as stringent as that I have received from any top-level journal. The criticisms were strong, but fortunately were readily answerable by editorial changes, inclusion of some additional data, etc. Our paper is far better, thanks to the detailed and thoughtful input that we received. Maintaining this standard of excellence should rapidly place BioMed Central among the leading biomedical journals. We feel quite honored to be among the early-published authors."
Pornngarm Limtrakul, Biochemistry Department, Faculty of Medicine, ChiangMai University, Thailand about BMC Cancer"For some time I have been intending to write to you to thank you for the efficient and professional way you handled the publication of our paper. Reviewers made helpful suggestions, and, with your help, the changes were readily incorporated into the manuscript. We were pleased with the appearance of the final product, and we appreciated the ease and rapidity with which the entire operation was handled. This method of publication provides the opportunity for convenient interaction between authors and readers; we have been impressed by the responses we have had from readers in several countries. Thank your for providing a new service to medical researchers!"
Pedro Cano, The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, USA about BMC Structural Biology"I must congratulate you for the excellent work in presenting papers in BioMed Central. Mine was particularly difficult to handle due to the many mathematical symbols. You do indeed have a very professional team to put things together."
Gerold Bepler, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, USA about BMC Cancer"I was very impressed by the quality of the reviews. They have truly added to making this a better paper. In addition, providing the reviewers name adds substantially to the quality. Often, one gets very short and wishy-washy reviews in addition to an editorial rejection - in cases like this, the entire submission process was basically a waste - I am glad that BioMed Central is not following such examples"
