For illustrative purposes, we show data for cases known to be less than T3 and M0 at diagnosis (88 cases had data missing for either stage or metastases and were not T3, T4 or M+). As would be expected, controls matched with non-advanced cancers had almost identical markers levels to the controls matched with advanced cases (data not shown).
