miR-124 and miR-137 inhibit proliferation of glioblastoma multiforme stem cells and induce cell G0/G1 cycle arrest. Cell cycle analysis was conducted by fluorescence-activated cell sorter at 48 hours after transfection of 100 nM (final total microRNA concentration) miR-124, miR-137, miR-124 and miR-137 together or negative control oligonucleotides (neg#1, neg#2) to U251 (A) and SF6969 (B) glioblastoma multiforme cells. Cells were treated with bromodeoxyuridine for 30 minutes, fixed, treated with fluorescein isothiocyanate-labeled antibromodeoxyuridine antibody and the DNA stain 7-amino-actinomycin D and subject to flow cytometry.
