Evolving Improved Antibiotics

Is anybody trying to evolve improved antibiotics? I'm talking about screening different lines of an antibiotic-producing organism and imposing selection based on the effectiveness of the antibiotics they make. Occasional exposure to a mutation promoter may be helpful.
