Framing of Weight Counseling Practices

When you counsel a patient on weight loss, which approach MOST resembles the one you generally use:


    Positive

"Mr. Jones, your weight is in the obese range. We need to try to get your weight down. Losing even a small amount of weight can help improve your risk for many diseases such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and arthritis. You also may feel better and have more energy."

    Negative

"Mr. Jones, your weight is in the obese range. We need to try to get your weight down. If you stay at this weight, you are at increased risk of diseases such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and arthritis. You're even likely to die early
