Long term effects of glycolaldehyde (GA) addition on [FeFe]-hydrogenase activated apr1 and CC-2803 cultures. Apr1 and CC-2803 cells were transferred into new TAP medium and adjusted to 20 μg × ml-1 chlorophyll concentration. Cultures were sealed and exposed for twelve hours to 60 μE × m-2 × s-1 to induce [FeFe]-hydrogenase synthesis. Then, GA was added (time = 0 h in the diagrams) and hydrogen accumulation in the bottle headspace as well as in vitro hydrogenase activities were measured every two hours in GA-treated and in control cells. Values represent means ± standard deviation (n = 3)
