Morphological dissimilarities between GFAP-positive cells from the subventricular zone and olfactory bulb. GFAP-positive cells (A) from subventricular zone and (B) from olfactory bulb neurospheres. Cellular morphology and staining result resemble astrocytic fate of the neurospheres. Both cultures showed no difference in the percentage of GFAP-positive cells, but differ in their cellular morphology. (C, D) Binarized images used for branching analysis. The branching index was calculated according to [31], counting dendritic contacts to concentric circles around the cell body with additional weighting for more distant contacts. (E) The GFAP-positive cells in the olfactory bulb show increased branching than the subventricular zone GFAP-positive cells.
