Astrocyte proliferation was estimated by measuring ³H-thymidin uptake, expressed in cpm. Note that constitutive uptake was higher in KO than in WT astrocytes. Both anti-Fas antibody and mrTIMP-1 increased proliferation of WT astrocytes but not of KO astrocytes. Values represent the mean +/- s.e.m. of at least three independent experiments. Statistical differences were determined by Student's t test when comparing treatments to control cells with the same genotype (* p < 0.05) or KO vs WT cells (● p < 0.05).
