The Sinorhizobium meliloti RNA chaperone Hfq influences central carbon metabolism and the symbiotic interaction with alfalfa

Omar Torres-Quesada, Roke I Oruezabal, Alexandra Peregrina, Edgardo Jofré, Javier Lloret, Rafael Rivilla, Nicolás Toro, José I Jiménez-Zurdo BMC Microbiology 2010, 10:71 (6 March 2010)

Mutant strains of the nitrogen-fixing endosymbiont Sinorhizobium meliloti lacking the RNA chaperone, Hfq, exhibit compromised bacterial competitiveness on the host alfalfa and impair plant growth, revealing that Hfq regulates processes associated with carbon metabolism and nitrogen fixation.
