Corrected sequence divergence of simulated CMT1A-REPs For each of the simulations
represented in Figure 2 the mean number of variants that have arisen since the repeats began diverging is
converted into a sequence divergence and plotted against the rate of gene conversion.
The expected range for a locus that is shared between humans and chimps, but not gorillas
is shown in grey. Each point represents an average over 1000 simulations. Significance
is assessed against the SSUF from the observed alignment. Filled squares indicate
rates at which simulated data sets are significantly different from the observed one,
at the 95% level. The range of rates at which simulated datasets are not significantly
different, in terms of SSUF, from the observed one is shown for both models above
the chart.
